Formed in 1994, The Eskar Trio has established itself as one of the world's leading ensembles of the chamber music stage. They have performed throughout their native Denmark, including several concerts at Tivoli Concert Hall and Aarhus Concert Hall. The Eskar Trio has also enjoyed great sucess in concerts at concerts in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, Portugal, Japan and a concert series as "Ensemble of Summer" at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
Several Danish composers have written works especially for The Eskar Trio resulting in many world premier performances. In 1996 The Eskar Trio won first prize in the Danish Broadcasting Corporation's Chamber Music Competition, and later that same year won second prize in the Nordic Chamber Music Competition. Since then, the trio has won prizes in several international competitions, including the 1997 International Chamber Music Competition in Trapani, and a medal at the 1999 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. They have won numerous other awards and scholarships, including the Simon Spies Music Prize, the Van Hauen Prize and the Gurli and Poul Madsen Scholarship.
The Eskar Trio has been featured in many radio and TV broadcasts including a Danish Broadcasting Corporation documentary on the trio's work with the world famous cellist Ralph Kirshbaum. In addition to Kirshbaum, The Eskar Trio has worked under the guidance of several great musicians, including Frans Helmerson, the Amadeus Quartet and Valentin Berlinski of the Borodin Quartet.
In the Spring of 2003, The Eskar Trio released a critically acclaimed CD of works by Ravel and Chausson. Leading international music periodical The Strad awarded the CD a star, its highest distinction, and proclaimed it as "outstanding."
